33 Petitionalpha

Contra Costa County Supervisors elbowed their way to the front of the line on November 4th and gave themselves a 33% raise (increasing their salary from $97,000 to $129,000 approximately).  They did this after years of pleading poverty and asking county employees to sacrifice for the greater good.  Despite reasoned and impassioned arguments from residents, employees, and various community groups, the Supervisors marched forward with their self-awarded raise.  When it comes to the County’s budgetary priorities, their message was clear: necessary county services and dedicated county employees should be last, and the Supervisors should be first.

Worse, by pegging their salaries to that of Superior Court Judges, they’ve removed all future pay increases from public attention and voter scrutiny.  Contra Costa residents deserve better than this.  We are in the midst of a petition for referendum signature drive to overturn their self-awarded raise.  Please join us!

Say NO to greed.  Say YES to accountability!
